The great thing is no matter how much or how little talent you have, you can always improve it by practicing and learning. Creativity isn’t just a talent you either have or don’t, it is a skill that you can build through hard work and perseverance. Follow the guide below to boost your inner Pablo Picasso.

PRACTICE REGULARLY

Without a doubt being called as an inspiration is a marvelous thing, but without special abilities to realize your ambition, you won’t get far.

Being called by the muse is a wonderful thing, without a doubt, but without the technical abilities to realize your vision, you won’t get very far. Whatever your chosen medium or media, become an expert in every part of it by following these guides;

1. Be sure to reserve an hour or more each day practicing your technique.

2. Build your strength and be sure to focus on areas that are the weakest.

3. Take advantage of the internet. The internet is your best friend here since you can easily access thousands of tutorials and videos that are loaded with tips and techniques that will help you grow.

WORK ON THE THINGS YOU LOVE THE MOST

Choose a subject that you genuinely love and that you want to be able to draw. Start with a portrait you love and that you have a permission to use. Draw or paint the photo whichever you want, sketch, paint, abstract, etc.. You can also practice time gesture drawing; pick a subject, set your timer then start drawing and stop when the timer stops even if the drawing isn’t finished.

USE EVERY TOOL THAT IS AVAILABLE

This is really important since you have to know how to handle different tools for different styles of drawing. Choose whatever interest you, from charcoal, pencil, paint, etc. Never fear trying new stuff and techniques.

LISTEN TO THE OPINION OF OTHERS

Make it clear that you want to hear their real, unbiased opinion. And if they think it’s good, you’re progressing and if they don’t, you’re still progressing. Be sure to ask them what subject you’re lacking or failing so you can reflect on it and learn.

DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE

You can do this by drawing and painting your favorite subjects in all ways and techniques that every painter has done. Learning your own technique will lead you to understand what really is your passion. Having your own style is a combination of drawing and painting well in your best subjects while consistently paying attention to details that you find flexible.
